The military is developing a possible route for a humanitarian corridor for civilians from the Kursk region of Russia to Sumy, Deputy Prime Minister Vereshchuk reported.
At the same time, she clarified that Russia has not yet sent an official request regarding the humanitarian corridor to its side.
Human rights activist Rashevskaya told Obshchestvenny in a commentary that the evacuation of Russian citizens to Ukrainian territory is an extreme measure if all other possible options have been exhausted – this is evacuation within the occupied territory or evacuation at Moscow’s request to Russian territory.
According to her, 180 to 200 thousand people need to be evacuated from the border regions of Russia. According to Russian data, 120 thousand were evacuated in the direction of Russia.
Let us recall that Ukraine has created a military commandant’s office in Sudzha.
We are moving forward in Kursk. A military commandant’s office has been created, which should ensure law and order, as well as all the needs of the local population, the commander-in-chief reported during a meeting of the Headquarters.
Major General Eduard Moskalov has been appointed commander of the commandant’s office.
As noted by the expert of national and international criminal law Gunduz Mamedov, the changing nature of the war imposes new obligations on Ukraine. He called for the development of a strategy and policy for compliance with the norms of international humanitarian law in the controlled territory in the Kursk region.
The Red Cross is ready to provide humanitarian aid in the Ukrainian-controlled territories of Russia as soon as it is requested. The committee is currently in contact with the Ukrainian authorities and monitoring the situation.
Earlier, Ukraine launched a hotline for residents of the Kursk region who need evacuation.
