From the beginning of Russia’s large-scale aggression against Ukraine, Lithuanian customs did not cooperate and did not exchange information with the customs services of Russia and Belarus.
The Lithuanian Ministry of Finance is proposing to break customs cooperation agreements with Russia and Belarus signed almost two decades ago. LRT wrote this on Thursday, August 15.
The government has prepared relevant draft regulations.
As the representatives of the ministry noted, since the beginning of Russia’s large-scale aggression against Ukraine, Lithuanian customs have not cooperated and do not exchange information with the customs services of Russia and Belarus.
However, people who have trade relations with these countries provide customs and courts with documents issued by the customs authorities of these countries as evidence of the legality of trade and compliance with international sanctions.
An agreement with Belarus on cooperation in combating customs law violations was signed in July 1996 in Vilnius, and an agreement with Russia on cooperation and mutual assistance in the field of customs activities was signed in February 1995 in Moscow.
The denunciation of the agreement with the Republic of Belarus, adopted in September 2000, must still be approved by the President and the Seimas.
We remind you that the entry into the territory of Lithuania of all passenger vehicles registered in Belarus will be prohibited from August 16.
The Financial Crimes Investigation Service (FNTT) said seven people and four companies are suspected of violating existing international sanctions and smuggling nearly two million euros worth of goods into Russia.
