The former commander of US ground forces in Europe said that the only thing Putin could do after the Ukrainian Armed Forces entered Russian territory was to fire missiles at the store.
The Ukrainian military operation in the Kursk region proved that Russian “red lines” do not exist. This is what Lieutenant General Ben Hodges, former commander of US ground forces in Europe, said in an interview with DW.
“It disproved the fear that Putin would grow up and use nuclear weapons. The worst thing he did was fire missiles at another supermarket in Ukraine.
Asked if he was saying there would be no more red lines, Hodges replied: “I certainly hope not.”
“The Ukrainians gave us a lesson – even in the conditions of the total proliferation of drones, it is possible to prepare operations of such a scale, of course, the commander-in-chief [ВС РФ] Gerasimov and the Russian General Staff ignored intelligence signals that Ukraine was about to attack,” he continued.
At the same time, the lieutenant general emphasized that Ukraine is not interested in seizing Russian territory. However, he said, this operation will force Russia to rethink its actions. He noted that in this way Ukraine is protected from Russian attacks.
“It’s the classic military doctrine of operations in action – pick the right moment, distract the enemy, take the pressure off your other troops,” said Ben Hodges.
We remind you that on Wednesday it was reported that another settlement in the Kursk region is under the control of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
