Ukrainian military showed a rare video of the use of French AASM Hammer guided bombs against Russians.
Unique footage was filmed by Ukrainian pilot Alexander Migulya, who died during a combat mission on August 12, 2024. The tactics of using American AGM-88 HARM anti-radar missiles, GBU-62 JDAM-ER or French Hammer bombs are associated with serious risks for pilots. Former spokesman for the Ukrainian Air Force Yuriy Ignat wrote about this on Facebook on August 14.
I am publishing footage of the use of French AASM Hammer guided air bombs, filmed by a Ukrainian pilot, earlier than planned – in memory of Alexander. He died during a combat mission on August 12, 2024, the report says.
According to Ignat, to drop these aerial bombs, pilots need to get close to Russian air defense systems and fighter jets. Because of these risks, enemy missiles and the difficulty of performing tasks with outdated Soviet-era equipment, sometimes bitter losses occur.
As is known, AASM Hammer is a set of additional equipment that turns free-falling (so-called “dumb”) bombs into “smart” guided ones. Basic versions of AASM Hammer use 250 and 1000 kg bombs (based on the Mk 82 and Mk 84/BLU109 bombs, respectively). There are also 125 and 500 kg versions.
Recall that on August 4, on Air Force Day, President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed the transfer of the first F-16 aircraft to Ukraine. The fighters transferred by the allies are equipped with the latest avionics and radars for guiding missiles to targets.
