Hamas proposes to develop a plan for the implementation of the proposal previously accepted, instead of holding new negotiations.
The Palestinian Islamist group Hamas will not participate in a new round of ceasefire talks on the Gaza Strip, scheduled for Thursday, August 15, in Qatar. It was reported by Reuters.
The Israeli government said it would send a delegation to Thursday’s talks, while Hamas demanded a plan to implement the proposal it had already agreed to and said it would not open new talks.
“Hamas will adhere to the agreement on the proposal presented here on July 2, which stems from a UN Security Council resolution and is based on Biden’s speech. The movement is also ready to immediately begin discussing the mechanism for implementing the proposal,” senior Hamas official Sami Abu Zuhri said.
According to him, moving to new negotiations will allow Israel to “impose new conditions” and use the negotiations as a cover for launching new attacks on Gaza.
Three senior Iranian officials said only a cease-fire in Gaza would prevent Iran from retaliating directly against Israel for the killing of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh.
Let’s remember that earlier the leaders of the United States, Egypt and Qatar in a joint statement called on Israel and Hamas to meet for immediate negotiations.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said an agreement with Hamas on a temporary ceasefire and the release of hostages is “mature.”
