The expert called the fulfillment of the requirement of the State Special Communications Service to ensure autonomy within 10 hours in some cases “unrealistic.”
Today, 100% autonomy of mobile communications and the Internet can be increased to 5-6 hours. The CEO said this Datagroup-Volya Mikhail Shelembav in an interview Interfax-Ukraine.
While the expert called the fulfillment of the requirement of the State Special Communications Service to ensure autonomy within 10 hours in some cases “unrealistic.”
“Perhaps the option when the base stations are dedicated not to 10 hours of autonomous operation, but to 5-6 hours, will be more realistic but on the condition that it will be ensured in coordination with other elements of the system, including the energy sector,” explained Shelemba.
In his opinion, the work requires the generation of 1.0 GW of additional electricity, which is also part of the problem.
“Three Ukrainian mobile operators together have 40 thousand base stations. Each of them needs power of at least 5 kW per hour, that is, for 10 hours – 50 kW. And they need to be charged within two hours. This means that for every where it will be necessary to supply 25 kW per hour – 25 kW to 40 thousand stations, this is 1.0 GW of additional electricity that must be generated in the system, and this is also part of the problem , “emphasizes the expert.
He also clarified that not all base stations have the power they need. Therefore, the implementation of the order of the State Service for Special Communications is impossible without close cooperation with UkrainergoOblenergo. Some base stations need to be supplied with more electricity.
Many base stations are located on roofs, and installing batteries there requires a serious technical study of the roof, Selemba said.
Earlier, the National Center for Operational and Technical Management of Telecommunications Networks (NTC) updated the requirements for base stations of mobile operators under martial law. Now, operators must ensure the availability of mobile communications during power outages for 10 hours, instead of 4 hours, as before.
Also, President Vladimir Zelensky ordered Deputy Prime Minister Fedorov to present an analysis of telecom operators at the next meeting of the Headquarters to find out what is being done to guarantee communication in blackout conditions, and which operators of telecom does not comply with relevant decisions.
