The Ukrainian Armed Forces explained the relocation as Russia’s attempt to repel the invasion of Ukrainian troops in the Kursk and Belgorod regions.
Russia moved some of its units from the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions against the backdrop of the Ukrainian operation in the Kursk region. Politico reported this on Tuesday, August 13, citing the words of the spokesman of the Tavriy operational-strategic group of troops, Dmitry Likhoviy.
He explained the withdrawal of troops by saying that the Russian Federation had moved them back into its own territory to try to repel the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ offensive in Kursk and the Belgorod region. Likhovoy added that the Russian army had deployed a “relatively small” number of soldiers, but did not specify how many.
At the same time, Russian troops want to balance the offensive of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and continue the attack in the direction of Pokrovsky and the rest of the Donetsk region.
We remind you that, according to President Vladimir Zelensky, there are 74 settlements under Ukrainian control in the Kursk region of the Russian Federation.
