Pipeline gas supplies from Russia to Europe will continue despite the fighting in the Kursk region.
Ukraine and Russia do not intend to stop gas supplies via the Sudzha gas metering station. Although the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ offensive in the Kursk region has led to European gas prices reaching a maximum amid fears that supplies will be disrupted. This was reported by Bloomberg, citing informed sources.
It is noted that Kyiv and Moscow have a financial incentive to continue deliveries of “blue fuel”. For Ukraine, gas transit provides big money – about $ 1 billion in 2021. And Europe remains one of the largest consumers of pipeline gas from the aggressor country.
The article says that Ukraine is keen to be seen as a reliable partner for Europe, hoping that traders in the region will make greater use of its vast gas storage facilities. That is why Kyiv has good reasons to protect the infrastructure, as unused pipelines could become targets for military attacks or become unusable.
Bloomberg writes that any accidental damage to key infrastructure at the gas metering station in Sudzha could stop supplies.
The Ukrainian Ministry of Energy declined to comment to the publication.
Let us recall that on August 12, Radio Liberty, citing satellite images, reported that the Sudzha gas metering station, which is the only route for Russian gas supplies to the European Union via Ukraine, was damaged in the Kursk region of the Russian Federation.
