After the position of the President of the Republic of Belarus was introduced in 1994, this post was held by only one person – Alexander Lukashenko.
The text of the amendments to the Criminal Code, drafted on behalf of the self-proclaimed President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, appeared on the Belarusian national legal Internet portal. In particular, it is proposed to introduce criminal liability for threats to the former president. This was reported by the Belarusian service of Radio Liberty.
The article of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus shall be called Violence or threats against the President of the Republic of Belarus, the President of the Republic of Belarus ceases to exercise his powers. At the same time, it will provide criminal liability for threats or violence against family members of the leader and former leader of the country.
The document proposes violence/threats or damage to the president’s property from 3 to 5 years or from 3 to 8 years in prison, and also proposes to add articles 367 (defamation of the president) and 368 (insult) to the president) – they will also mention the “former president”.
The bill is still awaiting parliamentary consideration, and if the vote is positive, Lukashenko will sign the document.
“After the introduction of the post of the President of the Republic of Belarus in 1994, this post was held by only one person – Alexander Lukashenko. The elections in all previous years were recognized by the democratic international community as invalid due to many cases of vote falsification and political persecution of dissidents by European and American politicians have repeatedly noted that Lukashenko holds power in the state illegally,” the publication said.
So, Belarus will not have another “former president” other than Lukashenko in the near future.
Remind you that the dictator of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, said that the opposition of Belarus is allegedly dreaming of getting part of Belarus.
