In Ukraine, the incidence of coronavirus disease COVID-19 has increased sixfold in a month – if 2 thousand cases were recorded in June, then in July there were almost 12 thousand.
The Chief State Sanitary Doctor of Ukraine Igor Kuzin spoke about this at a briefing today, August 12, the publication “Obshchestvennoye” reports.
Fortunately, the level of workload on the hospital system, that is, the issue of hospitalizations itself, is not that high, he noted. We see that just over 2.5 thousand (people – ed.) are in hospital treatment. This is completely normal for a peak rise.
According to Kuzin, the indicators that specialists in Ukraine are observing do not yet indicate that the epidemic season has begun and that restrictive measures need to be introduced.
But, indeed, the figures are quite high and not typical, given that we usually started to see the first growth starting in September. And here, one month earlier, we are already seeing such growth, he added.
Kuzin noted that there are a total of 10 subvariants of the Omicron coronavirus strain circulating in Ukraine. Five people were found to have cases of the new FLiRT subtype, which, due to a mutation in the spike protein, binds better to cells.
