Soon there will be two aircraft carriers near Israel, as well as a submarine with missiles.
The United States is sending the nuclear submarine USS Georgia to the Middle East, and is also accelerating the deployment of the aircraft carrier Abraham Lincoln. The corresponding orders were issued by the Secretary of Defense of the United States, Lloyd Austin, according to the Pentagon website.
It was noted that Austin had a telephone conversation with the head of the Israeli Ministry of Defense, Yoava Gallant. During the conversation, he confirmed the US’s commitment to all possible measures to protect Israel, and also mentioned the strengthening of the US military presence in the Middle East against the backdrop of rising tensions in the region.
Reaffirming the commitment, Austin ordered the USS ABRAHAM LINCOLN carrier strike group, equipped with F-35 fighter jets, to expedite its transition to Central Command’s area of responsibility. At the same time, the aircraft carrier Theodore Roosevelt was already in the region.
In addition, the head of the Pentagon ordered the dispatch of a guided missile submarine USS Georgia to the Central Command area.
Also during the call, Austin and Gallant discussed Israel’s operations in Gaza and efforts to reach a ceasefire and hostage release.
The conversation also focused on efforts to prevent aggression from Iran, Lebanese Hezbollah and other Iran-linked groups across the region.
It was previously reported that the United States is deploying additional military forces in the Middle East to reduce tensions in the region.
