The Council of the Free Russia Forum responded to the events in the Kursk region.
The statement of the Council, which was founded in 2016 by Garry Kasparov and Ivan Tyutrin, published on August 9, says that the breakthrough of the Ukrainian Armed Forces into the Kursk region “gives hope for Ukraine’s victory.” It is noted that the paths have unleashed a criminal war against Ukraine, and military actions on Russian territory are entirely natural.
For Ukraine, this war is defensive and just. Ukrainians are fighting for their freedom and independence, for the right to exist on Earth as a state and a nation. They have the right to defend themselves as they see fit, while respecting the laws and customs of war. Transferring military action to the territory of the aggressor is their legal right, the statement says.
The opposition emphasizes that the events in Kursk are the best answer to the skeptics who claim that negotiations are necessary and that Ukraine cannot leave at the turn of 1991.
The Forum Council noted that the Russians had only local successes, and now the initiative has shifted to the fight of Ukraine. This, in the opinion of Russian politicians, inspires them with hope that the victory of Ukraine in this war is not only possible, but quite probable.
The statement notes that the Russian opposition perceives the Ukrainian Armed Forces as its natural allies in the fight against Putin’s tyranny.
This is our fundamental difference from other detachments of the Russian political emigration, which have so far taken an insufficiently clear position in relation to this war. We call on them to come to their senses and begin to effectively support those who are now resisting Putin’s aggression with weapons in hand: the Ukrainian Armed Forces and Russian volunteers, they noted.
They also emphasized that Putin’s regime can be crushed by force of arms both in Ukraine and in Russia itself.
As is known, in Russia, former world chess champion, Russian oppositionist and co-founder of the Free Russia Forum, Garry Kasparov, was added to the list of terrorists and extremists.
Let us recall that on August 6, Russian propaganda announced an alleged breakthrough of the border in the Kursk region. The Ministry of Defense of the aggressor country claimed that the attempt to break through had allegedly been stopped, but the fighting has been going on for five days already.
The Ukrainian Armed Forces are making progress in the Kursk region and can now control over 150 square kilometers. The main events are unfolding in the area of the city of Sudzha, where the station through which Russian gas is transported to Europe is located.
