Local authorities say a Ukrainian UAV attacked an electrical substation. Due to the fire, several areas in the region lost electricity.

In the Kursk region, the city of Kurchatov, where the Kursk nuclear power plant is located, as well as other areas of the region, were left without electricity. The cause was a fire at an electrical substation, Radio Liberty reported on Friday, August 9.

Acting Governor of Kursk Region Alexey Smirnov said the fire was allegedly caused by a Ukrainian drone attack.

According to the official, Kurchatov, as well as part of Kurchatovsky, Oktyabrsky, Velikosoldatsky, Oboyansky and Belovsky districts, were left without electricity.

In the Kursk region today, the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations has declared a federal emergency.

Meanwhile, local public pages published photos of a huge fire in the Oktyabrsky district. But it is impossible to understand what exactly is burning from the video.

Let’s remember that in the morning the mayor of Kurchatov reported that military operations were taking place tens of kilometers from the city’s borders.
