Sanctions were imposed against individuals involved in human rights violations in Belarus and support for Russia’s illegal war of aggression against Ukraine.
Canadian authorities have expanded sanctions against individuals and legal entities in Belarus. Belarusian defense industry enterprises are subject to restrictions. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Canada.
It noted that sanctions were imposed against individuals involved in human rights violations in Belarus and support for Russia’s illegal war of aggression against Ukraine.
The restrictions include Belarusian judges arbitrarily convicting defenders of democracy and ordinary citizens for expressing disapproval of the falsification of the 2020 elections.
Sanctions were also imposed against enterprises in the defense industry, they are involved in the production or repair of military equipment, which allows Russia to continue the war against Ukraine.
The Canadian restrictions target a Belarusian state-owned company that suppressed its employees’ right to peaceful protest following the August 2020 election fraud by intimidating and firing employees who participated in peaceful strikes and demonstration.
We remind you that the UK has introduced new sanctions against Belarus. Sanctions were announced against seven other individuals and legal entities. The total number of sanctions restrictions against Belarus is more than 200.
It was previously reported that the European Union approved a new package of sanctions against Belarus, which includes 28 people believed to be involved in repression and human rights violations in this country.
