Ukraine is negotiating with the United States to obtain permission to use ATACMS ballistic missiles to strike military airfields in Russia.
Such missile strikes are needed to destroy fighters that the Russians use for retaliatory strikes. The destruction of this equipment will allow the Ukrainian Armed Forces to retain control over the areas of the Kursk region. This, in turn, will give Kyiv the leverage it needs for negotiations with Moscow. This statement was made by presidential adviser Volodymyr Zelensky, The Washington Post reported.
Ukrainian officials have asked Washington to allow the Defense Forces to use American long-range ATACMS missiles to hit airfields that Russia is using in response to the invasion. If approved, such a move could allow Kyiv to hold on to parts of the Kursk region for some time, the article says.
According to the adviser, Ukraine deployed a large number of troops, capturing about 100 square kilometers of Russian territory. Three days later, the Ukrainian Armed Forces advanced deep into the territory past cities with many thousands of people. During the offensive, hundreds of Russians were captured and a gas measuring station was seized, which Russia uses to pump “blue fuel” to Europe.
Let us recall that the United States of America is taking the operation in the Kursk region of Russia calmly. The Pentagon stated that it will continue to support Ukraine with the means it needs, and the actions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Kursk region “are consistent with US policy” on the use of the weapons provided.
