“Estonia will create a command structure of the division with UK support. It will begin to be formed in the coming months. The division will be part of the NATO command chain,” Laanet said, adding that such a decision was made when NATO summit in Madrid.
The Minister also said that to strengthen the eastern part of the North Atlantic Alliance, the UK intends to allocate “an additional brigade to protect Estonia, the headquarters element and some units which are located in Estonia.”
According to Laanet, this will help ensure high efficiency of military interaction between the two countries, if necessary. It is assumed that the units included in this brigade will begin circling Estonia in peacetime and will build the country’s defense in real conditions.
Earlier it was learned that NATO was strengthening forward positions. Alliance Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said the need appeared for the first time since the Cold War.
