The memorandum signed in Madrid does not mean that Sweden and Finland’s process of joining NATO has been completed, Ankara warned.
Turkey, within the framework of the agreement signed in Madrid, will seek the expulsion of 33 people suspected of terrorism from Finland and Sweden. This was stated by Turkish Minister of Justice Bekir Bozdag, Anadolu report on Wednesday, June 29.
“The memorandum signed the other day does not mean that the process of the two Scandinavian countries’ accession to the Alliance has been completed … Turkey will continue to fight for these countries to stop being “bases” for to terrorist organizations, and also for them to bring back the terrorists that Turkey wants, ”the minister said.
According to him, Turkey is determined to follow the issues outlined in the memorandum in the future.
Ankara also demands the extradition of people suspected of terrorism – 12 people from Finland and 21 from Sweden.
It will be recalled that on June 28 in Madrid, Turkey agreed to support the entry of Sweden and Finland into NATO. Specific steps will be discussed over two days.
And now, Finland and Sweden have been officially invited to NATO. All 30 participating countries must ratify their entry into the Alliance.
