The Security Service and the National Police caught two saboteurs in Kyiv who, on orders from Russian intelligence, were preparing a series of arson attacks on Ukrzaliznytsia facilities.
The enemy’s main targets were relay cabinets of signal installations in strategically important railway lines in the region.
To carry out the sabotage, the infidels recruited a local 22-year-old repeat offender, who came to the “attention” of the aggressor due to a conviction for hooliganism and fraud.
At the end of July this year, a representative of the Russian special services approached a man at Telegram and offered him cooperation. For the aggressor’s money, his henchman must first burn down a relay cabinet near one of the Ukrzaliznytsia freight stations in Kyiv.
To carry out the hostile task, the Kiev resident enlisted the help of his 17-year-old friend, a local handyman.
According to the instructions for Russia, the saboteurs conducted additional reconnaissance near the potential target at night, photographed it and sent it for “approval” to their Russian curator. Then they acquired tools to break the protective panel of the electrical equipment and the flammable mixture.
At dusk, the saboteurs broke the door of the relay cabinet and set fire to its technological part. Then the defendants filmed the fire on a mobile phone camera for “reporting” to the occupiers.
The attackers were then supposed to continue the series of arson attacks on Kyiv’s railway infrastructure facilities.
It didn’t work out – they were detained by SBU officers.
During searches of the detainees’ premises, mobile phones were confiscated with evidence of their explosive activity in favor of Russia. They also found “working equipment” that was used to commit arson.
Security Service investigators informed the defendants of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 28, Part 2 of Article 113 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (sabotage committed by prior agreement by a group of persons under martial law).
The repeat offender is currently in custody, and his accomplice has been placed under house arrest overnight. Both men face life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
