The document specifies the conditions for obtaining Ukrainian citizenship by birth, by territorial origin, as well as the conditions for admission to Ukrainian citizenship.
President Vladimir Zelensky on Wednesday, August 7, submitted to the Verkhovna Rada a bill to ensure the implementation of the right to obtain and maintain Ukrainian citizenship. His card appeared on the parliament website.
The new bill specifies the permissible cases of multiple citizenship, as well as the details of obtaining and restoring Ukrainian citizenship for certain categories of foreigners, especially in a simplified manner.
The bill also clarifies the conditions for obtaining Ukrainian citizenship by birth, by territorial origin, as well as the conditions for receiving Ukrainian citizenship.
Multiple citizenship (nationality) is allowed in the following cases:

acquisition of a child of citizenship of Ukraine and another state by birth;
-
acquisition of a child of citizenship by foreign adoptive parents;
-
acquisition by a citizen of Ukraine of another citizenship through marriage with a foreigner;
-
automatic acquisition of another citizenship of a citizen of Ukraine by the law of another state without receiving a supporting document;
-
simplified acquisition of Ukrainian citizenship by foreigners from the states included in the relevant list;
-
acquisition of a citizen of Ukraine of citizenship of states whose citizens receive Ukrainian citizenship in a simplified manner.
At the same time, multiple citizenship is not allowed for people with citizenship of a state recognized by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine as an aggressor or occupier, or a state that does not recognize the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine, in particular, which voted against the UN General Assembly Resolution “On the Territorial Integrity of Ukraine” dated March 27, year No. 68/262.
Let’s remember that in May the Rada supported the granting of citizenship to foreign volunteers. The bill was adopted on first reading.
