The arrival of the F-16s in Ukraine has not changed the United States’ position on strikes against Russia. However, the United States may change its decision on using the weapons provided to Ukraine against military targets in Russia depending on the situation on the battlefield.
State Department spokesman Matthew Miller announced this at a briefing.
In addition, Miller did not give a clear answer to the question of expanding the capabilities of the West and members of the North Atlantic Alliance to shoot down Russian missiles that the aggressor launches to strike Ukraine, noting that such a decision “must be made by NATO members collectively.”
Earlier, the United States partially allowed the Ukrainian government to strike military targets in Russia using American weapons. Any further expansion of permissions will depend on the situation on the battlefield, Miller said, answering questions from Alex Raufoglu, a journalist for the Azerbaijani publication Turan.
