The Western F-16 fighters received by Ukraine have a modern modification and the latest aviation equipment.
Kyiv is currently working on obtaining long-range weapons for these aircraft, People’s Deputy and Deputy Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on National Security and Defense Yegor Chernev said on NV.
The F-16s given to Ukraine have new avionics and radars to guide missiles to targets. Ukraine is also seeking long-range weapons from Europe and the United States for these aircraft, Chernev says.
According to him, after receiving the first batch of fighters, Kyiv expects the next ones from the Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark and Norway, and is also working on expanding the coalition, in particular, thanks to the United States.
However, the “important issue” remains the training of Ukrainian pilots to fly the F-16 and technical personnel to service these machines on the ground. There are few bases in the world where such specialists can be trained, but Ukraine is looking for opportunities in different countries.
Various experts agree that we are talking about long-range JASSM missiles.
They have the following modifications:
- Classic JASSM with a range of up to 370 km;
- JASSM-ER – more than 900 km;
- JASSM-XR or AGM-158B-2 – up to 1900 km.
