The mother failed, but after legal consultation she proved the right to use this name.
A girl was denied a passport because she was named after a Game of Thrones character. The BBC reported it.
Her mother Lucy, 39, from Swindon in Wiltshire, said six-year-old Khaleesi was initially refused a passport by the passport office. Officials said they could not issue the passport without permission from Warner Bros. because it owns the trademark for the name.
After receiving legal advice, the distraught mother learned that her daughter had the right to use the name and forwarded this information to the passport office. “I didn’t understand and felt disappointed. If he got a birth certificate, wouldn’t anyone have noticed?” – he says. “I never thought a name could be trademarked.”
Later, Lucy receives a call from the passport office to apologize for the mistake. He also hopes that his story will help others who find themselves in a similar situation. “I think there are other people in this situation who were recently denied a passport because of something similar. I hope they know now that it will be resolved,” she said.
It was previously reported that filming has begun on a spin-off of the Game of Thrones series called A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms from HBO.
