According to Lebanese security sources, about 50 rockets were fired at northern Israel from southern Lebanon. Most of the rockets were intercepted by the Iron Dome air defense system, according to Israeli media.
Fears of an escalation of conflict in the Middle East are growing after Iran and its allies announced plans to give a tough response to Israel for the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Ghaniya. Shortly before that, Hezbollah commander Fuad Shukr was killed in Beirut, for whose murder Israel claimed responsibility. The Israeli army and government have not yet commented on Ghaniya’s murder.
Meanwhile, the US said it was bolstering its defence capabilities in the region. Additional warships and fighter jets will be deployed to protect US troops and Israel, the Pentagon said.
