The Ombudsman urgently appealed to the ICRC and the UN to document yet another human rights violation by a terrorist country.
A photo appeared on the Internet, possibly with the body of a Ukrainian prisoner, whose head and legs were cut off by the Russians. This was reported by Ukrainian Ombudsman Dmitry Lubinets.
“This is not only a violation of the Geneva Convention relating to the Treatment of Prisoners of War, it is the behavior of monsters that I observe that in accordance with the standards of international humanitarian law, no prisoner of war can subjected to physical harm! , violence or murder,” the message said.
Due to the gruesome footage, Lubinets urgently appealed to the ICRC and the UN to register another human rights violation by a terrorist country, as well as Ukrainian law enforcement agencies to verify the identity of executed prisoner and the truth of this crime. .
“Let me remind you that prisoners of war are in the hands of a hostile state, and the state is responsible for their treatment. That is, the responsibility for killing and destroying lies not only with Russian soldiers, but in the Russian Federation itself!” – added the Ombudsman.
Lubinets separately noted that the ongoing war in Ukraine is a hybrid.
“By distributing similar photos and videos on social networks and taking such actions, Russia wants to scare Ukrainians: both civilians and military, they say, see what we can do to forget and forgive it! – stressed the ombudsman.
It was recently reported that Russian war criminals shot a group of Ukrainian prisoners of war in the direction of Zaporozhye.
