In Russia, local swimmer Evgenia Chikunova will be officially declared at the competition as the “two-time winner of the 2024 Olympic Games champions.”

This was announced by the All-Russian Swimming Federation, reports the MatchTV publication.
They motivated this decision by the fact that during the final of the Russian Cup competition in June, Chikunova showed a better result than the winner of the final swim at the Paris Olympics on August 1, Tatyana Smith (South Africa) and Kate Douglas (USA), in the 100 and 200 m breaststroke.
It is noted that Chikunova has already been declared the “winner” of the Baltic Sea Cup, which ended on August 2 in Kaliningrad.
Chikunova previously refused to participate in the Olympic Games in Paris, despite having fulfilled the selection conditions in two distances, citing that she considered the conditions for admitting Russian athletes unacceptable.
In December 2023, International Olympic Committee Chairman Thomas Bach announced that the organization would allow successful Russian and Belarusian athletes to participate in the 2024 Summer Games as individual neutrals. Athletes will be able to compete in Paris without a flag, anthem, or other national symbols.
