To say that Ukraine can “completely shut down” the Russian energy system in response is “quite incorrect”, because it is impossible.
Russian attacks on the Ukrainian energy sector may significantly complicate the operation of the Ukrainian energy system, but it is almost impossible to destroy it. The head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, Kirill Budanov, said this on Friday, August 2, during a telethon.
He said the energy system has some level of protection.
“They are not completely overthrowing it. The Soviet system is completely divided and duplicated, provided that there are three or four, or there are duplicates in some nodes. Said Budanov.
Budanov also mentioned that Russia is strengthening the protection of its energy sector in case Ukraine starts attacking its energy system in retaliation.
“All these nodes are highly protected will install their power system, well, that’s probably a bit incorrect,” said the head of intelligence.
As you know, this week in Ukraine they stopped turning off the lights after the abnormal heat subsided and two units at the nuclear power plant were connected. July 30 is the first day in a month that closing schedules are not in effect for a full 24 hours.
Ukrenergo said that the situation in the energy system has improved, and the worst summer season is behind us.
