Currently, the main priority is to “cool down the situation” in Ukraine, said the special representative of the Chinese government.
The so-called six-point “consensus” between China and Brazil to end the war in Ukraine has received support from more than 110 countries. Li Hui, the Chinese government’s special representative for Eurasia, said this during a trip to Brazil, the Chinese Foreign Ministry reported yesterday.
According to him, the main priority now is to “cool down the situation.”
“China and Brazil jointly published the so-called six-point consensus on promoting a political settlement of the “Ukraine crisis” (as the two countries call Russia’s war of occupation against Ukraine – ed.) The statement it received the support of more than 110 countries,” said Li Hui during negotiations with the Brazilian President’s chief adviser on international policy, Celso Amorim.
The Chinese diplomat assured that Beijing is ready to strengthen contacts and coordination with the Brazilian side on the issue of political settlement of the “Ukraine crisis”, and noted the need for joint efforts to finally resolve it .
The report said that Amorim, in turn, expressed the readiness of Brazilian authorities to engage with China to promote a “six-point consensus” and create conditions for resolving the “crisis.”
China and Brazil published their “consensus” on May 23. The first paragraph already talks about the need to de-escalate the situation at the front – to prevent the expansion of the conflict and its aggravation. At the same time, there is no mention at all of restoring the territorial integrity of Ukraine, while last year in the first “12-point peace plan” this provision was in the first place.
Earlier, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky said that if China wanted to, it could force Russia to stop the war.
