A gender scandal erupted in women’s boxing at the Paris Olympics due to the 1/8 final bout between Algerian Imane Khelif and Italian Angela Carini.

The thing is, Khelif is a biological human. In 2023, Imane failed a hormone test and was disqualified from the World Championships due to too high a testosterone level.
The 25-year-old Italian stopped the fight herself. Carini threw her helmet to the floor and exclaimed:
This is not fair!
The referee officially raised Khelif’s hand up, indicating the winner of the fight.
After the fight, Karini said that she had never experienced such strong blows.
Italian Prime Minister Meloni has said that athletes with male genetic characteristics should not be allowed to compete in women’s sports.
Khelif is one of only two female boxers allowed to compete at the Olympics, despite being disqualified from the women’s world championships last year for failing gender tests.
Time clarifies that Khelif has never identified as male, transgender or intersex.
“I am heartbroken. I stepped into the ring to honor my father. I was told many times that I am a warrior, but I chose to stop for the sake of my health. I have never felt such a blow,” said Carini.
After the fight, the athlete burst into tears.
