The White House released a corresponding statement from Biden.
Today, three American citizens and one American green card holder who were unjustly imprisoned in Russia are finally returning home: Paul Whelan, Evan Gershkovich, Alsu Kurmasheva and Vladimir Kara-Murza, the American leader said.
The US President called their return a “feat of diplomacy.”
In total, we agreed to release 16 people from Russia, including five Germans and seven Russian citizens who were political prisoners in their own country.
Some of these women and men were unjustly imprisoned for years. All of them endured incredible suffering and uncertainty. Today, their suffering ends, the White House chief said.
Let us recall that in addition to three Americans and one American green card holder, Russia also gave away five more Germans and seven of its own citizens.
