Jake Sullivan said that negotiations on the exchange have been ongoing since the beginning of this year, and Navalny should be part of it.

The United States and its partners plan to release Russian “opposition figure” Alexei Navalny as part of a prisoner exchange agreement that went into effect on Thursday, August 1. This is what the National Security Adviser to the President said of the United States Jake Sullivan in a briefing.

“We worked with our partners on an agreement that should include Alexei Navalny, but, unfortunately, he died,” the American official said.

According to him, despite this, the work on the prisoner exchange continued and ended on August 1.

Earlier, an ally of slain oppositionist Leonid Volkov said they planned to release Navalny as part of a prisoner exchange.

Information about the death of the “oppositionist” appeared on February 16, 2024. In Russia, they said that he died of a blood clot.

Let’s add that, according to media reports, Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich, who is under Western sanctions, took part in negotiations between Russia, the United States and Europe on the exchange of prisoners.
