According to CBS, Russia may hand over at least 12 political prisoners as part of the exchange. They will be handed over to Germany, the TV channel claims.
Among those leaving Russia will allegedly be journalist Vladimir Kara-Murza, who was sentenced to 25 years in prison. He will be transported to the United States, where his family lives, CBS reports.
In turn, eight of its citizens will return to the so-called Russia, including people connected with Russian intelligence.
Among them is Vadim Krasikov, convicted of the murder of former Chechen field commander Zelimkhan Khangoshvili in Berlin
They also write that Russia has already fired WSJ journalist Evan Gershkovich and former US Marine Paul Whelan as part of a large-scale prisoner exchange.
Bloomberg reports this, citing sources. Both Vilan and Gershkovich were sentenced by the Russian court to 16 years in prison on espionage charges.
CNN claims the exchange is happening “right now,” mentioning that in addition to the US and Russia, Germany is also involved.
The agreement, according to the channel, was coordinated by a number of US government agencies, including the White House. The details were kept secret, but in recent days there has been more talk about it due to the transfer of people from prisons.
CBS also claims that Alsu Kurmasheva from Radio Liberty is on the exchange list. Official details of the exchange are still unknown, as are the exact lists.
