The rector of one of the Kharkiv churches of the UOC MP was recruited by the Russian special services even before the full-scale war. The “sleeper” agent recruited his acquaintance, who worked at the local branch of “Ukrzaliznytsia”, to obtain intelligence. This was reported by the press center of the Security Service of Ukraine.
Law enforcement officers established that the official gave the cleric access to official documents containing information about the departure and arrival times, as well as the unloading locations of Defense Forces trains transporting personnel, equipment and ammunition to the front lines.
Two Russian agents were detained. Their mobile phones and SIM cards from different operators were confiscated, confirming intelligence and subversive activities.
Investigators informed the cleric and his accomplice of suspicion under Part 3 of Article 114-2 (unauthorized dissemination of information about the direction, movement of weapons, armament and ammunition to Ukraine, movement, movement or deployment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The perpetrators face up to 12 years in prison.
Let us recall that in May, the SBU documented crimes committed by the head of the Zaporizhzhya diocese of the UOC MP, Metropolitan Luka (Andrey Kovalenko). The cleric was suspected of inciting religious hatred in Ukraine.
