The former president accused the current vice president of manipulating racial identity to gain the trust of blacks.
US presidential candidate Donald Trump says his likely rival in the race, Kamala Harris, recently started pretending to be black to curry favor with African Americans, although she previously identified herself as as Indian. He said this on Wednesday, July 31, at a meeting of the National Association of Black Journalists in Chicago, Ukrinform reports.
“I didn’t know he was black until he accidentally became one,” Trump said “Now he wants to be known as black. He’s always been Indian… And then he turned around and became black.” (Harris’ father is a black man from Jamaica, his mother is from India)
Trump also distorted his name several times, pronouncing it with an emphasis on the second syllable, whereas in English the stress should be on the first – Kamala.
Speaking about the need to fight immigration, he said that illegal immigrants are taking jobs in the United States that could be filled by blacks.
“Millions and millions of people are coming into our country and taking black jobs, Hispanic jobs and, frankly, union jobs,” he said “They’re taking your jobs.”
At the event, Trump immediately entered into controversy with the hosts – journalists from Fox News, ABC and Semafor.
He accused one of them of asking a “horrible,” “rude,” and “disgraceful” question when he bluntly asked what he had done for black Americans.
“I love the black population…” Trump said “I am the best president for the black population since Abraham Lincoln.”
Commenting on his age, he noted: “I know a lot of people in their 80s and 90s who are in good shape.”
According to Trump, he is willing to take a cognitive test, while Harris may fail it.
Trump’s appearance sparked controversy within the association. Prominent Washington Post journalist and editor Karen Attia resigned from her position as a board member and co-chair of the association in protest against giving Trump a platform for campaigning.
Harris is expected to meet with journalists from the National Association of Black Journalists in September.
Let’s remember that Donald Trump’s nephew, Fred Trump, told reporters that his uncle used racist words and also spoke badly about people with disabilities: he said that they “need cost too much and must die.” He called his uncle “nuclear crazy” and said he would vote for Kamala Harris.
