Ukraine must find an additional 500 billion UAH to finance defense by the end of the year. A quarter of this amount is expected to be raised through the revision of the tax policy. The Prime Minister of Ukraine Denis Shmyhal announced this on the evening of Wednesday, July 31.
He mentioned that this topic was discussed in a meeting with representatives of the Council for the Support of Entrepreneurship under Martial Law.
“The main issue is resources for defense. By the end of the year, our army needs an additional 500 billion UAH, 3/4 of this amount will be obtained thanks to the increase in local borrowing, as well as the overfilling of revenues to the state budget. , including by lighting the economy 1/4 of this amount is a tax change,” said Shmyhal.
He emphasized that the government orders every hryvnia of businessmen’s taxes to provide for the army and military payments, while other costs are covered by international partners. He also expressed gratitude to honest taxpayers for their support to the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the state.
The Prime Minister mentioned that this meeting is the beginning of a dialogue between the government and business to find an effective solution as soon as possible. He emphasized that business influences decision-making and remains an important partner in the discussion process.
Let us remind you that the budget deficit of Ukraine is 500 billion Hryvnia. If the Verkhovna Rada does not support the government’s tax package, problems with paying the military may appear in early September.
