The accused, who works in the ministry, posted a publication on his own page on the social network Facebook with the title “On the withdrawal of Ukraine and the Baltic republics from the USSR Longread.”
A former employee of the Ministry of Education and Science, who ridiculed the independence of Ukraine in a publication, will be sentenced for dishonoring the national honor and dignity of Ukrainians. The press service of the Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office reported this on Wednesday, July 31.
An indictment was sent to the court against a former employee of the Ministry of Education and Science for committing deliberate acts aimed at dishonoring national honor and dignity.
The accused, working in the ministry, on his own page in a social network Facebook posted a publication with the title “On the withdrawal of Ukraine and the Baltic republics from the USSR. Longread.”
In the message, he said that “not all former USSR countries benefited from independence.” And he called Ukrainian independence a “scammer” and criticized leaflets advocating a vote for Ukraine’s secession from the USSR on December 1, 1991, arguing that the people voted not for independence, but for promises of get-rich-quick.
Despite the fact that the prosecutor’s office did not name the suspect, it can be assumed that we are talking about Andrei Vasilenko. Vasilenko’s post remained on his page.
Thus, the accused disseminated thoughts, views and beliefs, the content of which offends the Ukrainian people, disgraces their national honor and dignity based on nationality, political and ideological beliefs.
The punishment of the article provides punishment in the form of imprisonment for up to three years.
Let’s recall that on August 24, Vasilenko wrote on Facebook that in 1991, Ukrainian citizens allegedly did not understand anything and supported the Act of Declaration of Independence only because of “propaganda.”
He also noted that not all former USSR countries benefited from independence, and “the Soviet occupation was the best thing that could have happened to Lithuania.”
After the situation was made public, the Ministry of Education began disciplinary proceedings against Vasilenko.
And later it became known that Andrei Vasilenko, an expert from the Ministry of Education and Science, was fired for anti-Ukrainian statements.
