The government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela has decided to cut diplomatic relations with the Republic of Peru.
Venezuelan Foreign Minister Ivan Gil said Venezuela cut diplomatic ties with Peru in response to Lima’s “reckless remarks.” This was reported by AFP.
According to him, Venezuela is ending diplomatic relations with Peru, recognizing the leader of the opposition Edmund Gonzalez Urrutia as the “elect president,” despite the fact that the current President Nicolas Maduro was declared the winner of the National Electoral Council.
“The government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela has decided to cut diplomatic relations with the Republic of Peru… Constitution,” said Gil.
Earlier it was reported that the Venezuelan authorities recalled diplomatic personnel from Argentina, Dominican Republic, Costa Rica, Panama, Peru, Uruguay and Chile and demanded the immediate departure of the representatives of these countries from in their territory.
Nicolas Maduro won the presidential election in Venezuela for the third time. With 80% of the votes counted, Maduro won more than 51% of the vote, ahead of Democratic Unitary Platform candidate Edmund Gonzalez Urrutia, who received more than 44%.
The opposition says its candidate won 70% of the vote. Latin American leaders also doubt the integrity of Maduro’s victory.
