Washington has agreed to provide the Ukrainian Air Force with missiles and other advanced weapons. These include air-to-ground munitions, precision bomb guidance kits, and modern air-to-air missiles. The amount of weapons planned to be delivered will be sufficient to meet Ukraine’s immediate needs, The Wall Street Journal reported, citing an unnamed senior US official.
We are confident that we will be able to supply all of these weapons, at least in the critical quantities that they need, the official noted.
The Defense Forces will receive from the Americans:
- AGM-88 HARM air-to-surface missiles;
- extended-range versions of JDAM kits that turn unguided bombs into “smart” weapons;
- GLSDB small diameter bombs;
- AMRAAM medium-range air-to-air missiles;
- AIM-9X short-range air-to-air missiles.
In addition, the US stated that Ukraine’s allies in Europe may purchase additional weapons for the F-16 from the United States.
The unnamed official also added that Ukraine could use these weapons to strike at Russia’s border regions, but only in response to attacks by the aggressor.
Recall that the Washington Post reported that Western F-16 fighters are expected to arrive in Ukraine within a few weeks and will strengthen Ukraine’s air defense. They will not be sent to the front because there is a risk of losing these aircraft in combat.
