The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry stressed that fair elections must be transparent and reflect the true freedom of the people.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine expressed support for the will of the citizens of Venezuela and called on the country’s authorities to refrain from using force against peaceful protesters. This was announced by Foreign Ministry Speaker Georgy Tikhy at Platform X on Tuesday, July 30.
He emphasized that fair elections should be transparent and reflect the true will of the people.
Tikhy also recalled that Ukraine itself faced similar situations when the authorities neglected the choice of citizens.
“We call on the Venezuelan authorities to refrain from using force against peaceful protesters,” the diplomat added.
We remind you that spontaneous rallies began in Venezuela on July 29 after the presidential election. Their participants believe that the authorities rigged the election results in favor of the current head of state, Nicolas Maduro.
As reported, Nicolas Maduro has won the presidential election in Venezuela for the third time. With 80% of the votes counted, Maduro won more than 51% of the vote, ahead of Democratic Unitary Platform candidate Edmund González Urrutia, who won more than 44%. The opposition said its candidate Edmundo Gonzalez Urrutia won 70% of the vote, not 44% as reported by the country’s Electoral Council.
