The Kamchatka gasification plan was approved in 2023. It is planned to organize fuel supplies in the region under the Sakhalin-2 project.
The Russian government has postponed the deadline for the gasification of the Kamchatka Territory using liquefied natural gas – instead of 2025, the project will be implemented until the end of 2026. This follows from the draft resolution prepared by the Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation , The Moscow Times reported on Friday, July 26.
The Kamchatka gasification plan was approved in 2023. It is planned to organize fuel supplies in the region under the project Sakhalin-2.
As the Governor of the Kamchatka Territory, Vladimir Solodov, said, the bet on its own gas fields did not work due to an incorrect assessment of reserves. As a result, the fuel shortage in the region reached 500 million cubic meters per year.
The Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Alexander Novak predicted that the region’s demand for gas will increase by the end of 2035 to 700-800 thousand cubic meters.
In this regard, the government instructed Gazprom from 2023 to start supplying LNG to consumers of the Kamchatka Territory from the project Sakhalin-2A Novatek – build a marine regasification terminal in Rakova Bay, Avachinskaya Bay, and two tankers for LNG delivery.
The regional and federal authorities of the Russian Federation, in turn, need to build shore and berth infrastructure, as well as determine the wholesale price for regasified gas and sources of compensation for the difference in the market price – I lost you Gazprom.
The postponement occurred due to problems with the floating regasification unit and gas tanker, said Alexander Klimentyev, first vice-president of the scientific and expert council of the National LNG Association.
It was directly affected by Western sanctions due to a full-scale war against Ukraine, which complicated the search for the necessary solutions.
Let us remind you that Russian Gazprom in 2023, it received a net loss of 629.1 billion rubles (about $6.8 billion) after a net profit of 1.23 trillion rubles (about $13 billion) the previous year.
We reported that gas supplies to China compensated the Russian Federation for only 11% of the lost European market. The decrease in supplies in Europe amounted to 115 billion cubic meters, of which China replaced only 13 billion.
