The Advanced Nuclear Fuels (ANF) plant for the production of fuel for nuclear power plants is located in the city of Lingen. It belongs to the French Framatome. It intends to expand the enterprise and produce hexagonal fuel elements (TVEL) there together with Rosatom.
They are needed for nuclear power plants in Eastern Europe, in particular in Hungary, Slovakia, Bulgaria and Finland. Russian nuclear engineers have already visited Lingen. The French authorities have approved Framatome’s cooperation with Rosatom, since the Russian nuclear industry is not subject to sanctions.
But the authorities of the federal state of Lower Saxony are against it. The local Ministry of Environment, responsible for coordinating nuclear projects, has already received 11,000 letters of objection.
I have always said clearly: one should not do business with a warmonger in general, and especially in the sensitive nuclear sphere. There are great concerns about external and internal security issues, such as sabotage, espionage and the influence of Russia as an aggressor, said Lower Saxony Environment Minister Christian Meyer.
