This was stated by the head of the psychological support department of the Ukrainian Navy personnel, Captain 1st Rank Andrey Ursol, during a press conference entitled “16 sailors are missing: where did the soldiers from the sunken boats Slavyansk and Stanislav go?
Colonel Bedzai died on May 7, 2022. He was the Deputy Commander of the Navy for Aviation and could have avoided flying the mission himself, but he felt it necessary to join the search for the missing sailors.
The pilot who shot it down received the title of Hero of Russia for this. Although the Ukrainian helicopter was a search and rescue one (i.e. without any weapons), and the Russian could not help but see this.
Thanks to Colonel Bedzai’s skill, the enemy failed to shoot down our helicopter either in the first or second event. And then the enemy used missile weapons. Bedzai tried to get the machine with the crew out from under the third strike, but failed.
