From a few tens to a few hundred pilots cannot switch to foreign airlines.
Pilots of Russian companies sent at idle time or those who quit, face difficulties when trying to find work in other countries: the Federal Air Transport Agency does not confirm information about them at the request of air regulator and carrier. Kommersant wrote about it, citing its own sources.
According to various estimates, from a few dozen to several hundred pilots cannot switch to foreign airlines.
“The fact that the Federal Air Transport Agency, during the standard verification procedure at the request of the future employer, did not provide data on the date of issuance of the pilot’s license and its relevance, was reported by five industry sources. As one of them said, in some cases the regulator explained the rejection of foreign colleagues “by inability to personal data”, and in others he did not give an answer, ” says the article.
According to interviewees, most tried to find work in Southeast Asian countries (Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia and Malaysia) and Turkey.
Miroslav Boichuk, president of Russia’s aviation personnel union, said that from late February to mid-June, foreign aviation authorities sent about 600 requests to confirm the information, and made this of the Russian regulator. But nearly a hundred pilots have actually found work so far.
According to market participants, the authorities are complicating the employment of pilots due to lack of personnel in the industry.
In particular, the Ministry of Transportation of the Russian Federation fears that due to the leakage of personnel, there is a risk that the implementation of Putin’s order to maintain the transport volume of 100 million passengers by the end of the year will be interrupted. At the same time, since April, the income of pilots in Russia has dropped by an average of 40%.
Recall that European countries began to ban flights for Russian aircraft after Russia’s attack on Ukraine. And on February 27, the decision to close airspace for Russian aircraft was made by the European Union. In addition, the UK, Canada and North Macedonia also closed the skies for the Russians.
