The Polish Defense Minister “tied” Ukraine to the future accession to the EU to the solution of the “Volyn issue.”
Polish Defense Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamisz said that in the future Warsaw should give Ukraine an ultimatum: the approval of EU membership is possible only after solving the issue of the Volyn tragedy in 1943 Kosiniak-Kamysh said this on air on one of the Polish TV channels, reports Polsatnews.pl.
The Polish official said that Poland supports Ukraine “as much as possible” in the context of the ongoing large-scale military aggression of the Russian Federation.
However, he noted that in relations between Warsaw and Kiev “not everything is perfect because of unresolved historical issues.”
In his opinion, against the backdrop of the European integration of Ukraine, the Polish authorities should “deliver an ultimatum.”
“There will be no entry of Ukraine into the European Union if the Volyn issue is not resolved,” the Polish publication quoted Kosiniak-Kamisz as saying.
Speaking about the current situation at the front in Ukraine, he emphasized that for the Polish side “the end of the war means only the victory of Ukraine.”
“Any other outcome is a direct threat of war for Poland,” the official said.
The head of the Polish Ministry of Defense expressed satisfaction that the equipment will arrive in Ukraine as part of defense support, but noted the growing risk that it will be a problem for supplies before the fall and winter due to the large-scale destruction of critical infrastructure.
Let’s recall that in May, the spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Poland, Lukasz Yasina, was sent on indefinite leave because of his demands for an apology from Ukraine and President Vladimir Zelensky for the Volyn tragedy.
