Sport brings people together and promotes mutual respect and playing by the rules, Antonio Gutteres said.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called for peace during the 2024 Olympics in France, which begin on Friday, July 26. He said this in a speech at the 142nd session of the IOC in Paris on Tuesday, July 23.

“On the principle of the Olympic Truce, I call on everyone to lay down their arms. Build bridges. Cultivate unity. And strive for the exclusive goal of peace for all,” Gutteres said.

The UN Secretary General noted that sport unites people, and also promotes mutual respect and playing by the rules.

Let’s remember that Pope Francis previously called for a truce during the 2024 Olympics in Paris.

The 2024 Olympics will be held in France from July 26 to August 11.
