Jeffries and Schumer said they made the decision as a “bottom-up” process to support Harris.
The leaders of the Democratic factions in the US House of Representatives and the US Senate, Hakeem Jeffries and Chuck Schumer, on Tuesday, July 23, publicly supported Kamala Harris as their party’s candidate for the US president, reports NBC News.
Noted that in a joint press conference with Schumer, Jeffries said that the US vice president is “ready, willing and able to lead us into the future.”
When I spoke with him on Sunday, he said he wanted a chance to win the nomination on his own and do it from the bottom up instead of the top down. Hakim and I respect that. Now that the process has moved from the bottom up, we are gathered here today to support Vice President Kamala Harris,” said the Democratic leader in the Senate.
The vote to make Harris the official Democratic presidential nominee will take place early next month before the Democratic convention in Chicago Aug. 19-22.
It was previously reported that Harris received enough votes to become a presidential candidate. And according to the latest data, Harris is ahead of Trump in the poll.
