The country’s gas delivery system and the Klaipedos nafta LNG terminal are only available to suppliers who do not threaten Lithuania’s national security.
Lithuania has banned the import of Russian natural gas, except for its transfer to the Kaliningrad region of the Russian Federation. On June 28, Saeima enacted relevant amendments to the Natural Gas Law. This was reported by Interfax.
According to the new law, the country’s gas transmission system and the liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal of Klaipedos nafta will be available only to suppliers from countries that do not threaten Lithuania’s national security, except for suppliers who transmit gas to Kaliningrad.
It was noted that in early March, Klaipedos nafta suspended the receipt of goods from NOVATEK due to the fact that the European Union imposed sanctions on Gennady Timchenko. And since April, Lithuania has completely refused to supply Russian gas through the pipeline.
For now, Russian gas continues to be brought in transit through Lithuania to Kaliningrad, but in a different technical mode, ensuring only the transfer of the amount of gas required for transit.
It was previously reported that Lithuania was the first country in the EU to completely stop importing gas from Russia.
Recall that Russia has a limited supply of gas to 12 countries in the EU.
