Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski suggested convening a meeting on August 28 and 29 in Lviv. Hungary opposed it.
At a meeting of European Union foreign ministers, Poland proposed holding a meeting under the Hungarian presidency on August 28-29 in Lviv, but Hungary opposed it. This was announced by Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski, Wnp.pl reports on Monday, July 22.
According to him, during the meeting, the most time occupied was the discussion about where a formal or informal meeting of the EU Foreign Affairs Council should take place during the Hungarian presidency.
No final decision has yet been made on the matter, as some countries believe that the informal Council in Budapest cannot take place due to Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban’s recent “peacekeeping” visit to Russia and China without the consent of the rest of the EU. countries.
“I proposed a compromise solution – for the Council to meet in Ukraine. This will serve as a sign of our unity with this country,” said Sikorsky.
The Polish Foreign Minister added that, for logistical reasons, such a meeting could be held in western Ukraine, for example, in Lviv. Hungary blocked this proposal from Poland.
We remind you that Hungary became the only EU country that did not sign a joint statement of fifty states condemning the Russian Federation at the UN Security Council.
More than 60 members of the European Parliament are demanding that the EU leadership strip Hungary of its EU voting rights because of Orban’s actions.
