There are increasing cases of children dying in the water due to the negligence of parents who leave them unattended.
Since the start of the swimming season in the summer of 2024, 432 people have died in the water, 63 of them children. Maxim Begovenko, a specialist from the Civil Protection Operational Rescue Service of the State Emergency Service, spoke about it on air at the national telethon.
According to him, the main reasons for such a number of deaths are swimming in non-designated areas, neglecting water safety rules, swimming behind buoys, swimming under the influence of alcohol, etc.
“Often, without calculating their own strength, people swim far from the shore,” Beregovenko pointed out.
He emphasized that the number of deaths among children is also increasing due to the negligence of parents who leave them unattended.
The State Emergency Service encourages people to rest in areas equipped by local authorities, which undergo appropriate checks before the swimming season and where lifeguards work.
