US Vice President Kamala Harris campaigned for US President Joe Biden’s re-election at a fundraiser in Massachusetts on Saturday, despite a number of party members and major donors calling for his candidacy to be dropped.

“We’re going to win this election,” Harris says. “It won’t be easy, but we’re people who understand that anything worthwhile takes hard work.
While she recalled the jitters surrounding Biden’s candidacy after last month’s poor debate performance, Harris did not address Biden’s calls to drop out of the 2024 presidential race.
NBC News reported that a group of Democrats has allegedly begun to draw up a plan for what Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign apparatus would look like and what her path to victory might be if Joe Biden withdraws.
At the same time, Harris herself continues to publicly state that she fully supports the candidacy of the current US president.
According to NBC News, some of Biden’s own aides are negative about her candidacy, saying she has “many weaknesses and no advantage in a potential showdown with Trump.”
Meanwhile, Joe Biden’s condition is improving after contracting coronavirus, but he is still bothered by a cough and hoarseness.
Biden’s pulse, blood pressure, respiratory rate and temperature remain normal, said US presidential physician Kevin O’Connor. Biden continues to perform all of his presidential duties.
What’s next?
Joe Biden plans to save a campaign that many of his supporters consider doomed, Bloomberg writes.
Calls from House and Senate Democrats for Biden to drop out of the race have only intensified since the president quarantined at his Delaware beach home after testing positive for the coronavirus on Wednesday. But the politician has been actively discussing with advisers over the weekend about returning to the race as a “last-ditch effort to save the campaign,” according to reporters.
Those close to the president say his resolve has only hardened in recent days, despite entreaties from some of his party’s top officials. But that has done little to reassure even Biden’s longtime allies, who many say his reelection campaign has entered a “death spiral.”
Biden’s supporters are calling on him to pass the baton to Vice President Harris, but she has so far expressed support for the White House chief.
At the same time, according to US presidential spokesman Kevin Munoz, Biden understands that “the stakes are high,” but notes that “there is still a lot of time between now and election day,” believing that he can correct the current situation.
Interestingly, after the failed debates, Joe Biden raised more donations in June than Donald Trump.
Reuters writes that Biden’s campaign’s main account received $64 million in June, of which $59 million was spent mainly on campaign advertising, leaving $95 million in the account at the end of the month.
Trump raised $21 million in June and spent about $10 million, ending the month with $128 million.
