Irina Farion, a well-known Ukrainian linguist, died yesterday, July 19, as a result of injuries sustained during an assassination attempt on her in Lviv.

Today, July 20, Deputy Prosecutor General Anton Voitenko, on behalf of the Prosecutor General, took part in a meeting with the Minister of Internal Affairs on the investigation of Farion’s murder. This was reported by the press service of the Prosecutor General’s Office.
During the meeting, the results of priority measures aimed at identifying and detaining the attacker were discussed. The deputy chairmen of the National Police and the SBU presented the relevant information, the report says.
It is noted that:
- versions are being worked on, including intentional murder related to the professional activities and active civic position of the victim;
- priority interrogations of witnesses are carried out – persons who were near the scene of the incident or who may be aware of any circumstances of the commission of a criminal offense;
- a range of investigative (search) actions and operational-search activities are carried out, in particular, house-to-house and house-to-house visits in order to obtain information that will be important for the pre-trial investigation;
- CCTV cameras are installed and measures are taken to obtain video recordings that will be important for the investigation (at the scene of the incident, near the scene, as well as along the paths of the offender’s approach and exit);
- A number of necessary forensic examinations have been ordered.
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing, the Prosecutor General’s Office noted.
Farion’s daughter Sofia Semchyshyn reported on her Facebook page that the farewell to the murdered woman will begin on July 21 at 19:00 in Lviv in the Garrison Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul. The next day she will be buried in the Lychakiv Cemetery.
